Highlighting the medication relevant for a specific visit

Carers will see only the relevant medication based on the time of the visit

Visit medication highlighting

Providing the best possible care for clients is a primary goal of caregivers and those responsible for ensuring their wellbeing. An essential part of this goal is making sure that all medications administered during a visit are correctly tracked and recorded.

Having a full list of the medication visible for the carers can lead to confusion and errors. Nursebuddy now offers the option to show the carers only the medication that is linked to the time of the visit they are carrying out, in addition to any as needed medications.

How do I activate this feature?

  1. Go to Settings > Medication > Times of the day labels

  2. Tick the box Highlight medication doses relevant for the visit 

  3. Important! You must set up the time of the day ranges and create your own labels, for example, Afternoon or Tea, Bed or Night, Noon or Lunch, etc. If these labels are incorrectly set, medication may show up at the wrong time of day. 

4. Once you have set up the time ranges and labels, every visit that matches these times will be shown to the carer in the carer's app. 

Note: Carers can still expand the view and check the full list of medication, as you can see in the following examples:

Example 1

Carer has been assigned to a morning visit where a medicine has to be administered

When the carer opens the medication task, they will see only the doses that match the label "morning":

Once they report all the mandatory doses for the visit, the carer should click confirm as checked to navigate the next medication section: 

Once all the medication lists are checked, the Medication Administration task will be marked as completed. 

If the carer needs to check the previous or later medications for the day, they will need to expand the list:

Any medications not relevant to the current visit will be dimmed, so as to reduce the risk of administering them in error:

The carer can always go back to the current visit view by clicking the option at the end of the list: 

Example 2

Carer has been assigned to a visit that spans 2 or more time ranges, in this case, an overnight/sleep-in visits. In this example, the visit starts at 8 pm and finishes next day at 11 am

When the task is opened, the medication list will show the 2 time labels in the Scheduled category. In this example, 1 dose at Bed time and 1 dose in the Morning on the next day.

The date is also shown next to the time label for clarity.

Carers can also navigate the time labels by clicking them at the top of the list.

Important! If the manager forgot (or chose not to) to add a time label to a medicine when creating it, those medicines will appear in the "No Time" category. To avoid any confusion, adding a time label to each medication or very clear instructions is always recommended.

For this overnight example, there is 1 medication that is required on the 20th that does not have a time label and on the 21st there is no medication with no time labels.

Again, the carer is prompted to check all the medication categories (Scheduled, No Time and As Needed) and confirm them as checked. Confirming each category as checked is the only way the Medication Administration task will be marked as completed. 

Example 3

The Medication Administration task was added to the visit but there is no scheduled medication that falls under the visit time range. There are only PRN medications.

This is a morning visit and as you can see in the following image, the lists will show up will be those with labels that match the time of the visit, in this case only the As Needed list: 

In this example, there is PRN medication with a morning label. Here the morning dose will be highlighted.

After reporting the doses and clicking the Confirm As Checked button, the Medication Administration task will be marked as completed. If the carer does not want to administer the PRN medication, they will select 'confirm as checked' to confirm they have checked the PRN medication and decided not to administer any. 

Example 4

A carer opens the full list and tries to report a dose that doesn't fall within the time of the visit

The carer will see a pop up to alert them that the dose they are about to report is not in their visit time range. The carer will decide if they want to continue administering the medication or cancel the action:
