Carers can be in charge of administering medication to service users or only prompting them to take their medicines.
In Nursebuddy the Medication Administration task is the only task that by default has the medication list added, hence it is the task that has to be used for when both administered and prompted medication need to be recorded in the client's eMAR.
There are some good practices you can use to make sure that the medication service you provide to your clients is the best possible, and these will also help your carers to record all necessary information in a proper way.
For example, you can use the dosage instructions field in the medications to add clear instructions about a medication that is prompted:
How to record medication prompts in the eMAR?
You can use one of these two options:
1- Use the Medication Administration task
When the Medication Administration task is added in visits or visit recurrences, the carers will be able to report each medication as Given or Not Given. They always need to select one of the 2 options, otherwise the medication will be recorded as Missed in the eMAR which can rise concerns.
When a medication is prompted, the carer will select the Not Given option (they have not given the medication to the service user) and then the app will ask the carer to select from the list the reason why the medication is marked as Not Given. Here the carer will select the reason: Prompted
2- Use a custom task containing a medication list action
You can also create a custom task for medication prompt, in Settings>General Settings>Tasks. Create a task with the name that you'd prefer e.g. Medication Prompt-Recorded in the eMAR, and from Action types select the Medication administration list:
After you create the task, make sure that you will select this one when creating your service users' visits and visit recurrences:
In the mobile app, the task will appear like this:
The next steps will be the same, click on the medication and report it as Not Given, followed by the reason Prompted.
If you decide to use the custom task option, make sure you add Medication Administration for the visits of clients who need assistance administering their meds and Medication Prompted for the visits where they only need to be reminded to take them.
Medication Prompted in the eMAR
No matter the option you have selected for your carers to record a prompted medication, if the carers reported them as Not Given + Prompted this is how the reports will appear in the eMAR:ย
By default the Not Given+reason reports use colour red, if you want to change the colour of the Not Given+reason to green as in the image above contact Support and we can change this for you.
